92 Fuel Crossover problem

I've got a 92 f150 300l6 dual tanks. The rear tank is pumping in to the front. Ford tells me that I missed the recall by 7k. Doesn't seem quite fair that I brought it in 2yrs ago and since it wasn't broke then I'm SOL now, I digress though!

My question is, if I don't use the rear tank and run from the front only will there be any additional drivablity problems or am I just out the extra fuel capacity?

I have that same problem... I just run around on the front and when I go somewhere far I fill both and make sure to run the front empty first.

To cure the problem you have to replace a check ball that is somewhere on the line near the pump.

My 93 was doing the same thing but there is no recall for this problem in canada so I ended up just buying a new front fuel pump since my tank rusted out and I had it out anyways. And as if paying $300.00 for a new pump wasn't bad enough Ford decided to change the wiring going to the new pump so you also have to buy a new pigtail and wire it in. Oh well it fixed the problem and my tank doesn't leak either.

Thanks for the heads up on the pig tail! I think I'll wait untill it warms up a bit to drop the tank and solder in the new wiring.

I got my '96 F-150 on Halloween and it has the same problem. My rear tank is fine, but the gas flows back into the front tank instead of the rear. If I run it off the front tank, it will sputter at times, but still run well enough. Some here have mentioned replacing the feul pump inside the front tank. I went to the local Ford dealer and the service rep said Ford had some complete repair kit containing two pumps and something else maybe. It would have been $850 with labor.

Hope this helps,

All they did to mine was replace two check valves and the fuel pressure regulator.
