92-96 F-150 sucks???
If everybody liked the same vehciles there would only be one make and model however the 92-96 ford trucks have proven theirselves to the point to you dont even have to ask.Ever walk through a junkyard that carries later models?Around here the chevy's out number the fords 3 to 1!When i purchased my 1994 my wife begged me to just buy me a new truck but thing is i didnt want a new one cause i like the 92-96 ford body style better than anyone before or after it..........but like i said different people like different things and i respect that but even a chevy owner cant question the ruggedness of a ford.I went with a buddy to get a tranny for his 1997 chevy z71 and he couldnt find a used one anywhere guy said they cant keep em Now im not exactly the smartest person in the world but dont you think there's a reason for that?I had a 1987 chevy s10 blazer and i couldnt keep a tranny in it i put 3 in in 4 years and had it in the mud twice and never ever towed with it.Now the little 2.8v6 was a solid lil motor but the tranny was petiful. And it wasnt just mine i knew sever people who had thoose around that model and they had the same problems.my old 1992 ford f150 had 212,000 miles on it and i pulled everthing on trailers from tractors to four wheelers and never did the tranny even slip once.So the moral to this story is just because you hear something take a minute to look at the facts
I think the '92-'96 aren't as good as the '97 - '2003's. However, I don't think the 2003's are as good as the 2004's. I do however believe, the '92 - '96's are better than the '87 - '91's, which in turn were better than those before them. What I am saying admist the confusion is that, year by year, the trucks are better than their predissesors.
thats a fine lookin machine i must admit. hey Urbancowboy, how does your 300 like the 4:10's and the 33's? i'm runnin the 33's with stock 3:08's... trust me, i know how much it sucks with the stock gears, and i'm goin through slave cylinders like mad too. ( and thats an expensive fix)
the reason i ask is i wanna know what its like at cruisin speeds. i'm probably gonna go to 4:56s and 38" tsls in the future, and wannted to know what you though of the gears with the 300.
thanks
john

Hmmmm. What can I say. Aside from a lower top speed, I don't think I've noticed the gears all that much. For one thing, I don't tend to crawl over objects. Generally I use my accerator all to often when four-wheeling. On top of that, I have a Powertrax No-Slip differential that doesn't do it's jobs so that's a limiting factor. When I get my E-Locker next spring, I might get more use out of the low gears. As far as highway driving, I max out around 75mph now on level ground or down hills. I use to hit the governor at 100mph. I try not to push it past 70mph though because the RPMs get pretty high. I don't know how high because I have no tach.

I own a 92 F-150 Custom 8 ft bed 300 inline 6
Its a great truck!! It takes everything you can dish out
and comes back for more! I plow snow with it, and use it
everyday for making deliverys for my machine shop.

hey urban, i have a tack, and at about 120km/h, i'm @2000 with the 31's. thats like 75mph or so i think???
33's i'm at 2300 - 2400 in 4th i also don't like the high revs, as she likes to get rather warm.
as for the loss of overall speed as you say, i'd take it, cause then i could turn bigger tires, and hitting mud holles in 3rd, instead of 1st or 2nd is a problem i'd like to have..... i'm guessin if i run the 38's and 4:56's it'll be almost stock gearing again, so i might run 4'88s. but thanks for the reply, as i was curious as to how it was on pavement

and speakin from experience, you'll LOVE having the rear completely locked, its a night and day difference.

Ive got my half 93 half 94 and the motors goin on 240K and still outrunning mustangs, ive never had or really heard of any axle or frame problems with these trucks honestly. The only problems ive had are the usuals that EVERY truck has.. rusted fender wells and rusted cab corners haha. I will have to say that although i hear great things about the inline 6 i wont own one, ive never had luck with them, i went through 2 in less han a year and then went to the 5.0 which is might i say a bitch and as worth it as it was, i wouldnt ever want to do it again. There will always be people who swear by the newer models or the older models, i personally swear by the 92-96 myself. Mines been the best truck ive ever had.

i love my 94. i put about 17k miles on it a year and its such a strong little truck. its got 155,000 miles all original and has had nothing major wrong with it in the year and a half ive had it. i mean, its a 16 year old truck. i have friends that beat the hell out of their 90s f150s and theyre still running too. the frames are NOT weak at all...ive seen a friend jump his truck multiple times. if that doesnt destroy his frame, i dont know what will...
the 90s f150s are also so much simpler too. way less work to fix and deal with. theyre strong trucks in my opinion but everyone has their own ideas. ive had nothing but good luck.

95 f150 5.8 all original motor and tranny and rearend. Only things that has been done to it is waterpump, tie rods, shocks, balljoints, tires and brakes. Been in the family since new and best truck ever. Burns about a quart of oil every 3000 miles.
so, im not the only one, look at the people after me, all just as proud of their trucks as I am, also having just as much right to give their trucks praise on here as you and I both. I have yet to see a rule stating that you cant post on a thread after any certain time, so whats wrong with bringing a thread back. In all reality I don't care if the post is 6 years old or 60 years old, if I feel like posting i'm going to. I love my truck and im going to let everyone know it, it might look like a piece of **** to everyone else in the world but im proud of it. If you had seen what it was before and the work that has gone into it you would be too. As for whoever says that a 90's F150 has a weak frame or axles, you couldn't be any more wrong and all I have to say to you is go buy one and open your eyes.
Unfortunately I had to sell my '96 truck in '06 when I got a job that gave me a company car. I quit that job and bought a Charger, only because I had the itch for a sportier car. I miss my truck, so much so that the wife decided to let me buy a new truck this year rather than buying her a new car next year. The wife gave permission to buy one now, but I want to see the new engines for 2011, so I'll be waiting. What I buy depends on if the wife gets a promotion at work. If she does, I'll be havin' a King Ranch in my driveway. If she doesn't I'll be havin' a Lariat in the driveway.
