issues w/ power steering

I have an 85 f150 4x4 with the 4spd t-18 and 300 cub straght 6. When I drive the vehicle, the power steering belt squeals in 1st, 2nd and sometimes third, but only for a short amount of time in which is gets worse and then completely stops sqealing. Also, if I am driving and its squealing and I hit the clutch, it stops squealing, put it back in and it will squeal for a bit and then stop. This usually happens when I am starting off in a turn, or turning from a stop. I tried changing the belt and it didn't help, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

That usually indicates a bearing that's seizing. Also, if fluid is low the thing can make a squeeling sound. But make absolutely sure it's the ps and not the alternator or h2o pump. Those hydrolic hoses are not the most fun to work with. You don't want to do it if you don't have to. Good luck
