93 f150 grasshopper sound...

Hi all, im a summer Lighting owner and a winter 93 f150 owner.

its a straight 6, no ac and the only thing power in it is the engine.

This morning when I opened the door to go to work, I heard a pretty loud noise that sound like grasshopper, kind of like a fan rubbing on something and squeeking.

The weird thing is the truck wasnt even running and its pretty loud.

last week I did have a constant squeek when the heater fan was running but a tap to the dash made that go away.

any idea what this could be? it was happening all the way to work 1 hour and I just went out to check it and its still making that noise. I moved around the heater control cause the system tends to hold air and even with it off you can hear the air being released.

I dont think its that cause its pretty constant but could there be a fan thats running all the time in there and its just that something is wearing out and making the noise? btw the battery is fine so I would think if it was like this all night the battery would be low from running a motor that much.

thx in advance for any help. when i get home tonight im going to un hook the battery and see if that does anything.

-Keith

Throw a smoke grenade under the hood, if no results, some tear gas should be used next. This almost always flushes out the little gremlins, and sometimes grasshoppers.

Ha, funny... well i found out what the problem was and im still cracking up about it.

so I got out of work and yup noise was still there. I pulled one of the battery cables. Noise was still there.

So i go to the pass side of the truck and figure out its coming from behind the glovebox, there is a black box which i think is part of the vent. I pull the glove box out and reach back and feel something that I pull out.

Its one of those handheld blackjack games that I had oh about 7 years ago and forgot about. the screen was all messed up and making he noise. the battery in it was welded inside and leaking.

The final solution was cutting it in half with a sawzall!!!

Poof no more sound and now i have a split.
