New Pick-up (possibly)
New Pick-up (possibly)
I've been looking into a new truck, and a came accross what I believe to be a good deal. It is a red (not a fan of red, but it looks pretty good) '96 F-150 ext cab 4x4, with a 5.0 and a 5 spd. It has 120,000 miles and the trucks interior is in perfect condition, with about 3 scratches on the exterior. The guys asking $5700. My current F-150 is a 5.0, so I'm not worried about the milage. However, the truck has no tach.?.? It is an XL, but so is my current F-150 and it has a tach? What gives? Do all '92-'96 XL F-150's not have tachs. That won't be the decieding factor, but I really do like to have one. Especially since no matter where you put an aftermarket one, it always looks tachy (no pun intended)

I dont think there is any rhyme or reason why some trucks have tach's and some dont. I have seen plain jane trucks with tachs, and fully loaded trucks without tachs. I think it just depends on what is ordered at the factory. You can swap a non-tach cluster out for one with a tach. All the wiring is already there from the factory.
Actually the dash is relativley easy to R&R, I've had mine out twice and everything pretty much lines up right where it should go. The hardest part was the fuel tank switch, the wiring to the plug is rather short, makes it really difficult to get the plug off. But once you get past this it is really easy. If you don't have dual tanks it won't be a problem. Whole thing shouldn't take you more than an hour or two.
