Stock internals and rpms

I have some stuff in the works and if it all falls through well I want to be able to rev the ole 302 to around 5750 and have the rev limiter raised to 6000. I am just wondering if the stock pistons, rods, and crank will be up to the challenge. This will be done all N/A so there wont be any extra stress from a power adder. I think everything can handle it.....5200 seems to be no problem for them, I was just wondering.

Your internals get weaker with mileage, but it should handle it for short bursts. You really have to worry more about your valvetrain then the lower end at high rpm's. Roller rockers are a good investment, and some companies (like Crower) have rev kits with special guideplates and stuff to let you run your engine up over 6,000.

Well the valvetrain is going to be all new...I guess I'll spill the beans lol, it isnt anything that great. I got a deal on some GT-40 heads that I simply cant pass up. They are in good condition and come with FMS 1.6RR, new springs, valves, ect... I am going to get them ported and honed before I install them so I can get the most posible out of them. Then I havent decided if I am going to just get the stock upper/lower intake ported and honed or if I will just buy the Eddy setup. I also figure I'll throw something like a Crane 2030 cam in there.

How many miles do you have? If you got the heads off and are putting a new cam in why not just pull the motor and freshen up the whole thing.

The engine has 81k on it. I would love to freshen it all up....but it runs so good as it is and I think its got plenty more miles left in it.

I think the new valvetrain sounds awesome and is a great idea! I would probably wait however on the new camshaft. Cams aren't really something that you just "throw in" while you're at it. They're kind of a pain to install while the engine is still in the truck. I would be happy with the new heads and roller rockers and wait until you rebuild your engine to change the cam. This would be much more time and/or money efficient. Just my .02 though. Any ways, congrats on the new heads!

Well my friend who is gonna hook me up with the heads said he would help me with the cam swap. I know he said he can swap them while in the truck in 4 hours, with the help of one of his friends and some "custom" tools to do the job. So I think I got a really good thing going. I just have to supply the
