Automatic to Manual Hubs

Hey,

Well my new Superwinch hubs arrived today and I have a couple questions. First, when engaging 4WD I have to get out turn the hubs to lock and then get back in and press the push button control on my dash, correct. Second, do I NEED a snap ring puller or can I use some thing else? If so what? And last does the front end have to be jacked up into the air and the tires removed to do the install?

Yes, get out, lock them in and hit the button to engage the t-case.

The snap ring plyers make it alot easier.

And the wheels dont always have to come off. If there is a center cap in the way you might have to take them off.

Ive always come across allen head screws. If they changed to torx its not too big. Maybe a T-20 or something like that.

If your center caps use three Torx head machine screws, you shouldn't need the snap ring pliers unless the new hub uses a snap ring.

My truck has the Torx and they are T25. The hub is retained by an externally retained ring, and takes some small picks and a bit of patience to remove. If you have these you will probably also need the lock nut kit. My truck uses a single nut to retain the wheel, with a strange retaining clip.

If you can use the stock bearing retaining nut, there is no need to remove the wheel or jack up the truck. If you have to change it you should at least jack it up. You may also need a large specialty socket to remove the nut. Most parts stores in my area stock them, and mine only cost about $15.
