Unhappy Show me the door, please (latch and hinge issues)

Yeah, it's me again..

Can't get the driver's door to close on my 86..

It looks like the hinges have a rivet end.. I'm assuming I bang the OLD one out, and replace that..

NOW..

When I bought it, there was a "problem" with the latch.. The return spring for the primary latch is broken.. You can reset it by hand, and, providing the door isn't sagging too much (which it NOW is) Viola!

Has anyone changed this latch, and how big of pain is it??

Is there MORE I need to know about repairing this hinge??

LEMME KNOW..

there should be some copper bushings in the hinge also . they are what wears out . the latch isn't that big a deal either, i went to the salvage yard to get two door lock actuators , took all the latches out and actuators on two doors in under 30 mins .

Yeah, I see the bushings..

How do I change them out?? The hinge pins appear to be somewhat "rivet like" I used a punch and hammer, and got nowhere, so I "DECIDED" it was time to ask..

The passenger side pins look more like unthreaded bolts, than the rivets on the other side.. I assume the driver's side is ORIGINAL and the PASSENGER SIDE was replaced...

I thought since I was getting knowhere like that I could "shim" the lower hinge, where it attaches to the door.. No dice, can't get the bolt in the lower part of the bottom hinge free.. Not sure that would "work" anyway..

Let me know...

Okay..

4 Sawzall blades, little propane torch.. Lotsa hammer/vicegrips..

I got HALF of the bottom one out..

The bushings WON'T budge.. Not a bit..

Anyway, the point is, I think I'm going to unbolt the top half.. And see if I can't get the door OFF..

I realize that's going to create as many problems, as it will fix, because those doors are HEAVY..

Any ideas would be appreciated..

a cut off wheel , a punch and a hammer or a air hammer would/should have worked ok . might have to drill out the bushings after the door is off . did you buy the new pins/bushing kits?

Mac...

Yeah, I bought pin/bushing kits..

These have "tapered" almost pointed ends, which SHOULD help me slide them back in (get them started..)

I'm going to try to hammer or drill out out the old bushings in the morning.. I'd like to avoid REMOVING the door, if I can, as I'm going to have to reinstall it alone..

Anyway... Thanks for the hints. I thought they would remove more easily, but then got to thinking.. Damn, I guess you DON'T really WANT those coming out easy, do ya??

I've got the weekend off.. I may let it sit, and deal with when I don't have to worry about time, as much..

Back in business.. Turns out the latch was FINE, it was just too poorly aligned to function appropriately. (niccccccccccce)

Thanks for your help
