300 to 351W swap

Anybody here done an inline 6 to 351w swap? If so, what did you measure off of when you welded in the new motor mounts? I'm wondering if i should keep the rear of the 351w in the same position as the rear of the 300 or if i should center the 351w above the crossmember and move the trans forward a little. It will probably look pretty simple when i actually do it.

I should be moved into my new shop next week sometime and i'll finally start working on my truck, within two weeks i should have it stripped down to bare frame. The frame will be sandblasted and fully boxed in and i will fabricate all new crossmembers and suspension brackets out of heavier gauge steel to support the extra horsepower and the 40" tires i want to throw on.

I'll post pics

Cool

Although I haven't done your switch, one thing you will have to watch is that the oil pan will clear the crossmember. I am not sure if the blocks themselves are the same but there shouldn't be much different between the two when comparing the mount locations on both motors. Is the 351 in another truck right now so you could measure from the front of block to motor mount and then check the same measurement on the 300 ??? Not sure if it will work or not that way. I am sure there will be someone that has more information than I along soon.

Moving the transmition would create WAY to many headackes than necessary. All you need to do is get frame mounts and engine mounts from a 351 to mount up. No custom fabricating and everything will align with your transmition. The frame mounts are riveted onto the crossmember and will be hard to remove, but a torch should make quite time with that.

Unfortunately i pulled the engine out of a bronco over a year ago and i never grabbed the mounts or made measurements because i was originally going to drop it in a mustang. I'll try to get new ones from a ford dealer though, they usually stock all the frame brackets for the suspension.

As for the oil pan i have a brand new duel sump pan that was custom fabricated to clear the crossmember on a 300 to 351 swap. I picked it up on ebay a few months ago for $50 bucks.

Thanks guys,
-Jon

As Gamehunter said.
No need to measure anything.

Get the new frame mounts and slap it in there. A stock 351w oil pan will work fine. You dont even need to mess with the tranny.
