Cooling ( or Not )

OK...having a little issue from time to time.... 4.9 wants to run more hot than cool. Water pump is not leaking from pee hole. Water pump and thermo replaced about 3 yrs ago I think. If I'm in stop and go for a bit I start running about mid-way up the factory indicator gauge. Normally don't pass the O in Normal. Flushed and refilled with the Preston Orange stuff. Not any better. Should I go for the thermo first. I just hate the clutch fan on these things. Would love to go with the dual Flexalites but hey I'm a real guy with real bills and don't have that kinda extra cash.

( Back in ATL full time so not highway driving to keep everything cool is also effecting everything too I'm sure. )

If it was the t-stat, the temp would be higher all the time, unless it was stuck open, and then it would be higher at highway speeds. I'm afraid the odds are about 5 to 1 that it's your fan clutch.

Take care,

Thanks PW...now that I've looked up the part on-line.... other than taking it with me ( which I know is the only way to get the right thing ) how do I know which one to get?

Fan Clutch: 7" Thermal Regular Duty; Reverse Rotation; w/40mm Hex Nut; 33mm Pilot

or

Fan Clutch: 7" Thermal Regular Duty; Reverse Rotation; w/36mm Hex Nut; 30mm Pilot

Thanks for the assitance!

( Oh and I thought this wasn't fun until I starting changing the plugs on the wife's 4.6L Expedition this weekend..Yikes! )

My truck had the 44mm nut, I ended up just getting a new fan clutch form AutoZone for only like $35 with a lifetime warranty.
