Need a sanity check on which water temp sensor drives the temp gauge and it's location. (89 5.0L)

Gauge moves to the left when ignition is on and stays there. Truck seems to drive normally so I'm "assuming" the T-Stat is fine.

Also...Is there a down and dirty test that would eliminate the harness/gauge as the culprit?

You can check the resistance of the sensor with an ohm meter.
