Tailgate Doesn't work?

Anybody know how to fix the tailgate latch? it used to work i just had to hit it really hard, but the left side rod fell off the handle and i can't get it to stay on. it pops off, i think a clip or something broke?

Does anybody know how to fix this? or know of a place where i can get replacement internals for the Tgate? Thanks!

There should be an access panel on the inside of the tailgate, it has around 10 bolts and you can see from behind the tailgate how everything is functioning....if it's just the handle you can get a new one cheap (ebay)

On the 85 you can reach in the hole and pull the rod to get to release. The 80 through 86 years dont have the acess panel in the back.

Any parts store should have a replacement clip in stock. If not try Ford or a body shop.

Aight. I'm in the process of looking up parts and making a list to restore my 85 to like new, and a new handle was only like 15 bucks or so, so i'm gonna order it. Hopefully that'll work and i can get the rod to attach, if not, guess i'm off to the junkyard before it goes in for paint

If you need tailgate parts I got a whole tailgate. The gate itself is pretty brnt up, No rust. All the latches work great.

If you want it just come and get it. I dont need it.

The shell of the gate is pretty hammered. I feel that the latchs and handles are the best parts of it.

It will fit an 85, I had it on an 84.

Im in Manville. Its about an hour and a half from you.

Anyway you could pull out the latches and clips and the pieces that attach to the handle and ship it to me? I'll send you whatever you'll need for shipping or whatever.

Thanks very much!
