i just changed the fluid in my 93 F-150 ext cab 4x4. and the drain plug for the rear diff is totally rusted. anyone have any special tricks to loosen this thing up?? i drive this thing to work. so its kinda a emergency. thanks to whoever replies to this..

 

you could always try to coat the end of your extension/socket in valve grinding compound. That gives it superior grip on the rusty part.

 

what kind of rear end do you have that has a drain plug?

 

I have been using this stuff called PB BLASTER, man it works great for rusty bolts, even worked on my exhaust manifold and collector bolts when I removed them

 

I'm assuming you mean the fill hole?? As a last resort you can take the diff cover back off and brill a big hole in it near the top to fill from, then stick a rubber plug in there when your done. My dodge is like that from the factory, theres no steel plug, just a rubber grommet in the diff cover.

have you tried just soaking it with some good penatrating oil or WD40 and let it sit a while?

 

A oxy/acetylene torch works great if you have access to one. Heat it up a few times and it should come right out.
