v6 4.2L VS 4.9L I-6

On Sept. 14th at a show my club is entered in there is also going to be racing for members who choose too, I'll be racing a fellow California Chapter club member from Ford Truck World.

There's a big post still growing between which one of us will win a race at the Irwindale 1/8th mile drag strip (if you can even call 1/8 a drag strip) Kind of looks like I'm the underdog but I feel very confident from past races I've won against stock 4.2Ls.

His performance mods are4.2L manual 4x2)
Flowmaster 40
soft bed cover
electric fans
Mac intake

Mine4.9L manual 3:31 4x2)
Both stock cats removed, replaced with single highflow cat
Gibson cat-back(super truck)
electric fans
K&N FIPK
Huirst shifter
soft bed cover

I wish I knew his gears in the rear.
I'll be recording this race also, and hopefully I can find a site that could host at the most 5mbs.

So who do you think will win this?

My vote is for you...one of my friends has an 02 reg cab short bed 4.2 5 speed 3.55 gears and i can take him by about 5+ trucks at 50...I don't know how fast your truck is, but I think you can take him. I can also host the vid for you...thats no problem and the server is fast.

I don't know who's gonna win in the 1/8 mile, but challenge him to racing up over the Grapevine with a bed full of lumber, and you'll leave him by Lake Castaic.

Have you seen the Ford Powerstroke ad where the F350 towing the traveltrailer buries the GMC 3500 with a similar load? Same thing applies here. The 4.2 is very likely a better performance engine than the 4.9. So what, it's a truck. They don't race Clydesdales. As a 4.9 owner, I hope you take him, but I wouldn't bet on it

Is the 4.2 a reg cab or SuperCab? XLT or standard? Standard size or oversize tires?

Bottom line is there are lots of variables to consider that might effect the outcome, but you've got a very good chance.

I think your chances are better at the 1/8 mile than at a 1/4. The V6 has very little low end power (much less than you) so you should take him out of the hole. He'll be playing catch up, but if his truck is a reg cab, no XLT and has 3.55 gears and standard tires, I think he would real in most 4.9's by the 1/4 mile (presuming he knows how to drive).

my boss has a 95 reg. cab long bed with a 4.9 and a 2000 ext. cab short bed with a 4.2, both have 5 speeds and both are XLs, the 4.9 has a magnaflow 2.5" exhaust and a K&N FIPK, the 4.2 has an airforce one and 3" magnaflow exhaust (both are custom bent). ive driven both of them and the 4.2 will rev like crazy and the 4.9 wont rev a damn bit. the 4.2 is way faster untill you put a load on it, its faster than my 5.0 for sure. PKRWUD is right though, that 6 has hella torque.
