ok it is a 1992 f150 2 whl drive with the 4.9 and automatic overdrive tranny


this has happened about 3 times since i got the truck which isnt a lot ,but it worries me...

when i am driving and going through many big puddles and it is downpouring out i will go to accelerate the truck will surge and then bog down like someone is going on/off with a light switch this will happen 2 or 3 times with the on/off pattern and then out of nowhere something will click and it will be as normal as can be when accelerating after that...

this will happen again when accalerating away from the next stop light or just speeding up a little after i let her coast ...but the minute the rain lets up it gives me no more problems

i considered the possibility that i may have had water in my tank so i pulled over and switched to the front tank and it did the same thing (just from my personal observation i dont think the problem lies in the motor itself i think it is in the driveline from the tranny back,but i cant be sure of anything)

for the record the truck had new ujoints and carrier bearing put in just before i got it ...i just recently changed the rear diff oil and also trans fluid and filter..and it also did this before the trans fluid and filter was changed

 

I had that problem with a jeep, found a crack in my distributor cap letting moisture in. Replaced that cap no more problem, might check that out.

Change the cap and rotor, and install a good grade of ignition wires and you should have no further problem. Yours are more than likey porus and absorbing moisture.

 

better late than never i suppose ...after looking at some of my past posts i realized that i never told of my culprit...



i did solve this issue

i had a crack in the side of my o2 sensor which would allow moisture in and throw off readings which directly affect fuel supply replaced with brand new o2 and no more problems
