Bought some headers

Well finally I bought some headers so I PKRWUD and StrangeRanger, yall dont have to worry baout me asking what to get and stuff lol. But I really appreciate yalls help and everyone elses. I ordered the Dynomax Ceramic Coated Long Tube headers and some Stage 8 Locking Header Bolts. I was wondering if I should get some better header gaskets than the paper ones that come with the headers and if I should get those dead soft collector gaskets. But thanks for the help everyone, I hope to get them on next Saturday. I was thinking about getting 2 cutouts to put right after headers...yall think this would sound good? Also I'm gonna ditch the hiflow cats. Any opinions on all this stuff.

Right on! You'll love the headers, but whatever you do, do NOT get paper header gaskets!!! Headers are notorious for exhaust leaks, especially with paper gaskets. I get the copper header gaskets. They're much better and last longer.

OK. Now, you've backed yourself into a corner.

Start looking for a set of the older GT-40 "3-line" heads at the swap meets. With your standard headers GT-40Ps are out. This means you get to save money by buying cheaper used heads.

I was thinking about picking up some stock heads ang getting them ported. I found out that one of my friends works with a guy who ports and polishes heads and said he would do them for me so I think I may go this way. Will the 3 line heads be much better than ported stockers. Also can I pick up copper gaskets at a local auto parts store or do I have to order them online?

I ordered mine from jegs.com but you might be able to get them at a brick and mortar location. BTW, to find them at the jegs site, just click on exhaust at the menu on the left, then click on header gaskets, then click on the second Mr. Gasket copper seal header gasket link. I have the sb square port.

It's a damn sight better than having to spend my own

IIRC correctly we both suggested Beastie start with the heads and build out (come to think of it PKRWUD may have said start with the camshaft and build out, but the principle applies.) The heads determine what headers you can use. He now cannot shop for the best deal on heads and buy headers to suit, he has to buy heads which fit his headers. Those are 3-lines or stockers.

Beastie, a street ported set of stock heads will about equal where GT-40s start off. Pay a lot of attention to the exhaust short side rasius, the flow bowls and upsize the valves, add 3 angle valve job and back cut intake valves.

i don't know if any of you read, Muscle mustangs & Fast Fords. but last month they did a flow bench test of around 8 sets of heads. this month they did a dyno shoot out of the heads. all the heads they tested where small runner heads, which by the way are perfict for getting a small block to move a heavy pickup.

the shootout is moving bigger runners next month and then the dyno. then to the wild heads. they have flow bench charts for stock heads a few ford heads and a lot of aftermarket heads. i plan on getting the whole series and laminating them in my 3ring binder i keep my dyno charts in.

go with the 3-line's, they'll give you a better starting point than the stock ones, and if/when you decide to port them, you'll have much better flowing heads than if you had ported stockers. btw, keep us posted on how you like the headers after you get them installed, i was thinking of getting those same headers for my truck.

What years do your headers apply to? I have a 1990 302 and I have square ports. If your headers would fit my year of truck, then you must have square ports as well. If your headers don't fit my year of truck, then that doesn't necassarily mean that you have round ports, it just means we can't be sure. But my money is on the square ports since I think most header applications I've seen encompass late 80's as well as early to mid 90's. Hope this helps.

Hey I have a friend with an 00 Dakota R/T and he has an exhaust cutout and it sounds bad *** when he opens it...I am wondering if I should get 2 and put one behind each header, what do you guys think...http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rt=SUM%2DG4821 Only thinkg I am worried about is when the cutout is not open do yall think it would hurt performance since the flow would be interupted by th cutout? Tell me what yall think...
