Headers
Headers
K I have made up my mind and I figured I already have a nice exhaust setup other than the fact I have no headers so I have decided thats what I'm gonna do next. I know this will limit my decision on what heads I will eventually be able to run but I think im just gonna buy some stock ones and get them ported. But as far as headers, should I go shorty or Longtube, and I think im gonna ditch the hiflow cats....any opinions?
Start in the middle (cam), and work your way out. When you get to the headers (after the heads
), long tubes would be better for you because you are driving a truck. Didn't we cover this recently?

There is very little difference in peak power between long and short tube headers (longs are marginally better) but there is a significant difference in power at low and middle ranges (longs are WAY better.) Unequal shorties reduce back pressure and improve flow but they do not give the tuning effect of long tubes. Equal length shorties do give a tuning effect, but it occurs at such high revs that it's pointless on a truck.
I know I ask often, but thats just so that I make the right decision. I have a little something in the works....302 out of a 93 F-150 45k miles asking $850, I dunno if I want to buy it and slowly build it up, but I am going to buy one for sure, so that I can still have my truck as a daily driver and then just build up the other engine slowly. But as far as the one in my truck I am just going to put every bolt on I can on it. I think I am going to go with the dynomax long tubes (strangeranger - thanks alot for that info, it is what I have wanted to know for a long time). Should the dynomax be pretty decent, I know hedman offers some also, which ones would be the best?

Without the specs on both headers, it's hard to say for sure, but Hedman headers are a reputable brand. I think Dynomax is middle of the road stuff. It just boils down to getting what you pay for.
I have Dynomax headers (full length) on my 75 F-250 with a 390. the only bad thing about them is the flange is really thing, almost 1/4". and on this particular application the passenger side is split into two pieces to go around the motor mount. if you get full length (or any header for that matter), get coated ones, you will be glad you did.

i was doing a comparison of dynomax vs heddmanl ong tubes for my truck, and from what inoticed, the only difference between the 2 i was comparing is that the dynomaxes have 2.5" collectors and the heddmans have 3" collectors.
