92 Inline -6 Starter Interchangeability
it is a 92 f-150 with the 300- 6cyl and an aod tranny,my starter is tottally shot and im heading to the bone yard in
the mornin,so what i need to know is what year inline 6 cylinders can i steal a new starter from??
i am hoping 87-91 will work because there are plenty of those in the local boneyards ,but there are next to none 92 or newer in the boneyards...

Nope. Sorry. The 4.9L used the same starter from '84-'91. In 1992, they changed them. Not only that, but in 1992, they became specific for the type of tranny you have as well. The starter for a '92-'96 4.9L w/ AOD is different from the starter for a '92-'96 4.9L 5-speed.

and thanks for the help but a local boneyard had this computer program that shows interchangeability of parts and was able to help me out...they gave me a printout and i can take a starter from some newer mustngs cougars tbirds and a whole load of other cars ,and even a 92-96 f-series with the 302 or 351 and ofcourse the 300
but my next question is where can i get access to this info myself??
i would be willing to pay for site access or even better to get 1 of these computer programs

Actually, my sources say you can use the starter from any truck pushrod V8, except a 460, from '92 to '98, but it is tranny specific. You can't use a starter from a truck with a 5 speed in a truck with an auto, or vise-versa. AND, you can't use them older than that.
