I think the inline 6 crank is forged, but i can't say so for sure. Either way there aren't too many perofrmance parts available for the inline 6 and the 4.9l is a strong engine to begin with, i don't don't think you have to worry about breaking rods and cranks.

whoa, you're putting twin turbo's on your 300? as far as internals go, id say contact a company that makes forged pistons/rods and see if they carry some that would be the right size you would need in your truck. mabe they can do some custom ones for you?

Well the shop rep said they needed a 5.0 or 5.8, and I just said a lil remark like oh the 4.9L could really use a turbo kit, and I went on saying that one doesn't exist and guy's are left to just fabricating one's them selves, kind of put him on a guilt trip, then I said they could use my truck if they were interested and he said hell ya and if I can get atleast 20 weather it be V8 or I6 interested then he can go into production.

Now the down side is it's going to be close to $6k and it's going to cost him another $4k to get it smog legal for Cali. Also he said they would have to have Mass-Air, but I kinda kept my mouth shut about '96 being the only year the 4.9L came with MAF, gawd I got lucky. I don't really understand the whole turbo thing, I just know I had one on my old 1642cc vw bug engine and it made a world of difference.

I just hope everything works out, I mean a twin turbo I-6!!!!

I'll admit that I have never owned a 300, but dosent a turbo seem kinda wrong. Wouldn't a roots type blower work better on a low rpm engine like the 300. Most turbos have to have a reasonable amount of engine rpm to really get them going. I would think you would only have power from like 3500-6000 with a turbo. With a blower you would have power from like 1800 to 6000 rpm. Just seems to me like a motor with a lot of low end grunt should have a blower instead of a turbo.

But then again what do I know- Diesels are low end motors and they all have turbos.

My only concern is the 300 is not a high rpm engine. I was completely agreeing with you until your damn diesel comment. I hate it when fact ruins a good theory.

Take care,

Well I have a buddy with a '95 I-6 and he fabricated a turbo from a trans-am he could only get 5 Ibs of boost out of it and the first time I heard it he was driving to meet me in a parking lot doing like 5 mph the thing was screaming like a ****, I wasn't impressed at all riding in it, it was on 35" tires but still my truck felt faster. Reason he did the turbo on his I-6 was because he lived up in Colorado up high and couldn't afford a V-8 so he was attempting to make his I-6 just as powerful to be able to drive a little faster in the higher altitude he lived in.

Here's the shop wanting to do the TT on my truck:

Chris this site is *** and won't let me link pic's to my nice gallery over at fordtruckworld.com, but if you click on my link down below under my truck pic it will take you there and you can look in my "Interior Mods" gallery.

Hurst is now changing the catalongs for the shifter to add the 4.9L to it, before it was only listed for the 5.0L, showed them pic's of it with my 4.9L and they sent me a goody bag of decals and a Nascar shifter handle and a "Hurst Equipped" Badge.

The shifter makes you feel like your shifting a sports car, made my truck feel like I'm shifting my old bug again. The shifts throw is shorter yet feels more stern. I have since added a T-Handle for personal prefference. Got the shifter from summitracing.com for $200, it's really up to you if it's worth the $200, to me it was worth it performance wise and look's since I enter show's.

Got the ***** from billetpro.com, I see them on E-Bay every now and then.

You can get a better look at the shifter on the 19th.....my buddy Jon is coming again for the race too.

I think the reason turbos work so well on low rpm diesels is because with the 22:1 compression they run the exhaust is moving pretty fast even at idle.

If you size the turbo for the application it will make the boost where you need it to and it will do so with very little turbo lag. If you put an oversized monster on the engine designed to mke mega boost at 12000 RPM it'll never work worth crap.

Learn how to read a turbo map and plot some graphs to see what you're going to end up with. Check out http://www.turbofast.com.au/javacalc.html for some maps to play with.

BTW your crank is nodular iron. There are some forged cranks available for the 300 but they're scarce, Ford hasn't produced them in about 20 years. Your rods are forged, your pistons are cast. A stock bottom end, fully and properly prepped with cast hypereutectic pistons should work well to 9 PSI or so. How far are you planning on pushing things?
