390 MPFI-----possible??

Ok I have had about enough of carbureted vehicles. I just had a wild idea today that i have been thinking hard on. I have a 76 F250 with a fresh 390 and a new demon carb. The carb is too big i think for the cubes but anyway thats beside the point. I was wondering if the intake off of a newer 460------like a 88 or so would bolt up to the 390 block and heads??? If it would this gives me a whole world of opportunities. I also need to know if the distributor would work???? I know there will be several different things i will have to "fabricate" on my own, but i think i may be able to make it work. One more prob i think i will have is with the 460 injectors----they would probably dump a little too much fuel in and im not real sure what ill do about that. But anyway just thought i would throw that out here and see what kinda responses i get. Thanks

Nope, won't work the 460 is a completely different engine than the 390. Unless somebody makes an aftermarket MPFI setup for the FE engines,(Ive never seen one), the best you could do as far as converting to fuel injection would be a aftermarket throttle body injection kit.(such as one offer'd by Holley).

you could do MPFI, just take your manifold to a machine shop and have them machine places for the injectors in each intake runner, then use a standard 4bbl throttle body. it seems like holley makes one. the rest you would have to do custom. do a search for Fuel Air Spark Technologies (FAST) they make some awesome aftermarket ECUs.

TB injection would be a huge improvement over a carb. MPFI would be even better if you can make it work. The 460 injectors would be a little larger that you need but not big enough to cause problems, the computer should be able to lower the pulse width enough to make them work.

man that sucks.......i was thinkin the 460 and the 390 were both FE blocks. I have a buddy that has a junk yard and i was hoping to get everything i needed from him. I have priced some aftermarket efi stuff b4 for a different engine and it was like 2400 bucks.....way outa reach for me.. I was thinkinf of getting everything i needed for like 5 or 6 hundred. I would almost think about having my intake drilled for injectors, but i would have trouble mounting a tps on an butterfly intake, among other things. I also need some way to tell the computer rpm and crank pos. via a newer distributor... Thats y i was wondering about the dist. ................Are there any engines that were FI that the intake would swap over for me?????? I kinda doubt there are...the 460 was the only one i thought would but i guess im outa luck there.

Im not sure about that distributor thing, i dont know if a duraspark distributor would work with an EEC-IV computer, i doubt it, maybe an aftermarket crank position sensor? check out this site http://www.fuelairspark.com/ aftermarket stuff is probably going to be the easiest to set up. as for the intake, sorry. Im not really sure here, but i think weiand's FE intake has places cast in, ready to be drilled for the injectors, or nitrous nozzles

No, the 460 will not bolt up to the 390 trans. Like I stated earlier, the 460 is a completely different engine. You would need a trans. from 385 series engines(370,385,429,460) or the 351M/400 engines + the correct flexplate(flywheel).

well im sol

geez........nothin is workin for me....im not gonna start swappin trannies too. I guess i see why no one has done anything like this. The reason i would nt do a tranny swap as well is cause all the fabricating crap underneat....new transfer case drivelines etc. Maybe i will try something like makin my own Mpfi system like Dave was tellin me.
