92 f150 possible ignition problems

This truck developed a bad electrical smell in the cab that caused it to shut off while it was idling ( I had gotten out for a minute). The air was on at the time and radio (stock). I have had this truck for 5 years with no problem like this. I know some '91 trucks were involved in a recall for ignition switches and shorts, but not sure about mine. I used the recall/VIN serach tool on the Ford site but I think it only goes back to 1996 (not sure) This truck will not fire but will turn over. This has shut me down as this is a work truck. It was also made in Canada I think (sticker in door). Any body got any tips or know what the heck is wrong with my truck? Could I have a leftover ignition switch from the 91's? Not even sure if this is my problem.

My 92 did the same thing, only I was driving. It was like someone cut off the key. There was a very strong odor of electical burning.
After I got it home, I could smell the odor low in the floor. It was strongest near the E-brake. Sure enough it was the computer. It would nor give any codes in the KOEO test

Just a thought, our year fords had a problem with the large four prong connection that plug into the alternator. They have a bad tendency to burn up, mine did once and I had similar symptoms, although no problem cranking. I don't even know if any ignition wire runs through the same harness with the connector I'm talking about but the problem is common enough that if you buy a rebuilt alternator an upgraded replacement connector comes with the dist. Might check that part and see if it looks like its gotten hot, may be the problem or it may possibly have caused a related problem.

My dog may not be huntin but its all I can come up with except the computer, which is already mentioned.
