Problem with Brakes
My front brakes were changed recently (about 2000 miles ago) and I noticed there is a weird sound coming from my front passenger side disc brake.
If I am coming to a stop and lightly apply the brake, there's a high pitched kind of chirping sound, as if the pad is touching the rotor incorrectly.
If I apply the brake hard, then the sound doesn't happen.
I took it to a shop and the mechanic told me it's because "They are high quality brakes and they sound like that".
I obviously DO NOT believe. What do some people think it may be? Should I take it to Mieneke or something?

If they were high quality brakes they wouldn't make noise. From my experiance i would say that the oem brakes you get from the dealer are the quietest brakes you can get, but they are expensive. It's the cheaper aftermarket ones that usually make noise. There are 3 things that can cause brakes to make noise (except for the squeeler that touches when they wear down). 1) rust or road debris on the rotors can make the brakes squeel, usually this goes away after 5 or 6 miles. 2) Cheap brake pads that have a high metal content last long but they do make noise and there's not much you can do about it, there are products you can buy to spray on the pads to help reduce the noise temporarily, i use a product called squeel-aid whenever i have to install aftermarket pads. 3) If the mechanic that installed them didn't lube all the hardware properly and use some silicone grease on the back of the pads the hardware can vibrate, and vibration causes noise.
None of the three are dangerous but if the noise doesn't go away it's not a bad idea to go somewhere that does free brake checks and have them do a quick brake inspection.
