Cool 19 lbs Fuel Injector Question ...

I have a coolant leak and the lower intake manifold needs to come off. I was thinking that since the truck has close to 245,000 kms (149,760 miles) that I might as well change the fuel injectors if I find a set laying around or at a good cost. They are 19 lbs injectors I believe and if I get another set as along as they are still 19 lbs injectors, do I have to reprogram the MAF sensor ??? If I have to reprogram that, then I will have to do the Superchip as well. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Just get another set of 19's and you're good to go. That's an excellent idea, too.

Check and see if there's an engine shop in your area that does fuel injector service. You can get yours cleaned and refitted for about half the cost of new ones.

Cool

Yeah, kinda figured that there wouldn't be a problem. I would get my set of injectors done so if I had problems later than I would just swap back. The truck is going to in the garage over night and it has to be a quick thing. If memory serves me, the last time I asked my service manager, they had to send them out and it would atleast a day. Cost isn't going to be a big issue if you have a "friend" that has an extra set of 19 lbs injectors out of a stock 5.4L engine that he has just laying around. Too bad I just couldn't drop the whole damn engine in there and I wouldn't have to worry about getting more HP & TQ out of this old engine. LOL !!!! Thanks for the replies guys !!!

Hard to beat Summit Racing's $209 for 19lb Ford Motorsports injectors.

Just talked to a guy at Five-O Motorsports in California and he says they are basically plug and play. The 5.4L 19 lbs injector will work on my 5.0L motor. Chris (PKRWUD) can you verify this as being correct ??? I just don't want to put the 5.4L ones in and nothing works, I already have enough cash in on this job without the injector work being done. I figured since everything is torn apart that it is a good time to do it but if it is going to cause issues, I can wait till later. The dealership said that it would cost about $40 CDN each to have them clean and flow tested and about $173 CDN each for new ones if I ended up going that way. Can't see how Ford is ever going to sell injectors for replacement if they are that cost compared to other places where you can pick them up for about $200 U.S.

Thanks inadvance for everyone's help and opinions, it is greatly appreciated. I hear ya Kirk, your awareness has been taken into consideration when talking to others.

Dean,

Just food for thought here.

Over the winter I had a radiator tank seep and got it cleaned and resealed. After that heat swings.

Apparently the water pump didn't like being dry for a couple days. If it's a local garage you might urge them to drain as little coolant as they need to do the job.

Signmaster, thanks for the thought. I just had the water pump replaced about six months ago so I hope that doesn't happen.

I'm looking into your question about the injectors, but more importantly, Signmaster is right!

If your water pump is going to be dry for more than 24 hours, it runs a very high risk of the seals cracking. Either keep the level up, or take it off and put it in a tub with water and coolant.

Okay, the official word is that they are both high impedance 19 pound injectors, and will definitely work just fine.

Cool

Just to let everyone know, everything worked okay with the injectors. Measured the injectors going in and there were around 14.5 ohms or so, the old injectors coming out were anywhere between 14.8 and 15.2 ohms. Basically plug and play with the injectors which is a good thing.

The only bad part of the whole deal was I had to change some other things too .... Other Changes

Thanks for everyone's help.
