Question Switching to 1.7 roller rockers

Hey guys,
I know this question has been asked before. I just wanted to get some updated opinions.
I'm replacing my lower intake gasket this weekend and I was thinking while I'm in there why not upgrade to 1.7 roller rockers.
My short block is rebuilt .030 over (nothing special) w/ Edelbrock 6037 Performer pedestal mount heads w/ 1.6 roller rockers. And i run a Ford motorsport camshaft (A312)

(Ford cam specs)
Intake events open 0 degrees BTC, closed 34 degrees ABC, Exhaust events 49 degrees BBC, closed 5 degrees BTC, Duration intake 290 or 214 degrees, exhaust 300 or 224 degrees, Lift lobe .295 I or .310 E, Valve .472 I or .496 E, Lobe center 107 degrees, exhaust 117 degrees.

Let me know what you guys think about upgrading or if you foresee any problems.

Thanks,
Jerry D

You might want to check with the roller rocker company about your cam specs. You can't upgrade to 1.7rr if your cam has above a certain amount of lift, but i'm not sure what the cutoff point is.

Ditto. Check with Crane or whoever you're getting the rollers from.

You SHOULD be OK. My Crane 2030 in the Mustang 302 HO has .533/.544 lift and no problems. With the 1.7s you'll have .502/.527 but your pistonsmight not have the same reliefs.

Fordforever,
When you did your 1.7's did you have to change the push rods?
Also, what engine did you install the 1.7's?

Thanks,
JD

You'll be just fine. My only concern would be if they'll clear your valve covers.

i checked over at the corral.net messageboard asking people about clearance when i was thinking of doing them, and you might have to modify your current valve covers. some people remove the oil baffle and get them to fit, others just buy taller valve covers (which might require a manifold spacer). FORCEFD on this board, though, got his 1.7's to fit with the stock valve covers i believe, so ask him which ones he's using. do a search over in the corral.net board, you'll find plenty of info. good luck!

I was looking on Summit.com and i saw these Ford motorsport roller rockers.
M-6564-A50 "Cobra" 1.7 Roller Rockers
M-6564-E351 1.72 Roller Rockers

Can someone tell me the difference?
Which set would be better for my application?

I also found a set on Ebay.

What do you think?

The A50s are die-cast aluminum, the E351s appear to be machined from billet (IIRC they're Crane gold series but anodized blue instead of gold.) Ithink you also need the rocker channel kit M-6588-A50 with the E351s

I think the die-cast version is smaller?????
Maybe i won't have as much clearance problems.

Any thoughts?

Should I be concerned about the pushrod length?

Not really. But always check the fit when you make any change. Pushrods are cheap.

I installed mine on a Dodge (gasp!!) 3.9 Magnum V6. I used the original pushrods, i just flipped them over. The crower rockers i used have self aligning tips, if you get rockers that require guidplates then you should get some new hardened pushrods. There are some valve cover clearance issues on the Dodge engine and there are no tall covers available so i had to gently "reposition" the the oil baffles, and by reposition i mean beat the $%#& out of them with a 5lb sledge hammer. All in all i am very happy with them, i've had them for about 3 months now and there is definitely a lot more power above 3,000 rpm.
