Clunking

My front suspension, worse on the drivers side, started clunking a while ago, and has gotten preogressively worse, and now I want to fix it. When I go over bumps, it makes this sound like metal hitting metal, kinda hard to explain, but if you have heard it, you know what I mean. I just wanted to know what I should change to make this go away. Does anyone have any ideas?

Things I'd check,
ball joints.
radius arm bushings.
those new shocks you just put in.
My money is on your radius arm bushings. This might be the time to get some rugged jack stands.

Well its not easy. Try to find the thread we had awhile back about the various ways of changing radius arm bushings. First you have to find out if it is them or not. Stuff your head under there and see if you can move the arm alot with a prybar or long screw driver. Look to see if the bushings (front and back where it mounts at the frame) are toast. Sometimes if they are toast you can wiggle them up and down by hand and hear the clunking.

Actually changing the radius arm bushings was very easy when I did it almost 2 years ago. I just jacked up the truck, took that big nut off the end, pushed like a **** on the I-Beams untill finally the radius arm's came out, replaced the new bushings, then I got a chain come-a-long rachet and put it around the front I-beams and rear axle, tightened it up and guided the radius arm back through...didn't even have to remove the tires and took about 1 1/2 hours doing both. (45min each)

But if one or both of your radius arm bushings are bad it will be pretty obvious when you look at them.

Well I'm an idiot and I got the problem solved. The center cap on my stock rims is held on by 3 screws and when I was on my way to work today, it strted making that sound constantly, so I pulled over and saw that there was only 1 screw holding the cap on, and it wasnt that tight, so I went to a hardware store and got some screws that will work, put them on and everything is perfect. All I need now is to goto Ford an see if I can order 3 of those screws. The new ones look fine, but if you compare it to another rims, you can tell there is a difference.

Hehe well that's a new one...atleats it was the least expensive of all the other possibilities.

But I do remember mine would loosen up every now and then also.

$.12 fix, best money ever spent, plus my boos put it on the business account, so I didn't pay anything, not that it was much.

I have this ticking coming from the other side of my truck, Iguess that will be this weekends project.
