Unknown Sensor?

Curiosity is killing me on this one. Back when I did my radiator repair I noticed a sensor behind the thermostat housing on my 302. I assumed it was simply a newer type of water temp sender.

Then I had my temp swings, and when I got looking the water temp sensor was in the normal place, to the right of the distributor and a single wire sender, like the oil pressure sender.

This sensor/sender uses two wires. It goes on a bolted in piece that has the return lines from the heater core, and the lower (return) line from the EGR spacer water line going into it. Looking at my Haynes manual I can't figure out what it is.

The threads in the manifold face straight up, so the bolted in piece that holds the lines and sensor faces straight up as well. The sensor/sender is screwed in at a 90 degree angle. The location is just behind the "bump" in the manifold for the thermostat by a couple inches or so.

Does anyone have any idea exactly what this is?

I'm thinking if it's at all like my 4.9L:
It's the temp sensor for the computer, the other one by the distributor is the temp sensor for the gauge…..2 different temp sensors

Sprockets right, years ago my temp sender went bad so i got a new one from autozone. I thought they gave me the wrong one because it was a different size, turned out i need the computer one and they gave me the one for the gauge.

Yep, that is correct.

Behind the distributor is the water temp gauge sender; behind the thermostat is the ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor for the fuel injection system.

I have a 300 six cylinder where the gauge is fluctuating. Does anyone know where the temperature sender is for the gauge on a 300 six cylinder?

Thanks!

It's on the passenger side of the engine block, underneath the exhaust manifold, towards the back.
