not again...

Well i was driving home last night and at a stop sign up the road from my house i downshifted into first right before i was stoped and BAM! my clutch disk exploded again. the last time it happened the same way. As far as i can figure its probably caused from a few things. 1 i didnt have the flywheel machined; 2 I beat the crap out of the truck all the time and 3. it was a remaned clutch set.

so anyway, i was really pissed off last night but im over it now. Ive got a new clutch set, and am going to take the flywheel to the machine shop tommorow if everything goes well tearing it apart tonight. wish me luck!

That wasnt a "Perfection HY-Test" clutch was it? Those things are awful.

When I went to buy my clutch, the guy tried talking to me about a remanufactured clutch....at that time I had a hard enough time believing the guy it was possible to remanufacture the things....I still don't understand, but all I can remember is laughing really hard and saying that if they could remanufacture a clutch, I wouldn't trust it with a demolition derby car. Get a good clutch, better yet, one with a warranty if you can afford it!! They are WAY to much work to not do it right the first time.

yep, it was a perfection hy-test. I think it was a remaned one though, cause i was in a hurry and thats what they had in stock. Ive learned my lesson though, im doing it right this time. I got a new clutch (perfection hy-test), and it has a 1 year warranty if i get the flywheel machined, which i am, at the same place i bought the clutch (NAPA). for some odd reason the reman clutch is a whopping dollar more than the new one I was thinking of getting a centerforce clutch, since i do a bit of four wheeling and am really hard on the clutch, but this is my daily driver and borrowing my moms minivan for a couple days really sucks. I would be driving my other truck ('75 F-250) but it ironically has no clutch at the moment either, now its on the back burner.

but all went well with the teardown. My diesel mechanic friend helped me out and we whipped it out in about an hour.
