On a truck that old you will need to rebuild the engine before you put a supercharger on it. I don't know what engine is in it but if it's an inline 6 your out of luck.

It would be a 302 unless it was rebuilt and bored .030 over, then it would be a 306. To put a blower on, you will have to convert it to Mass Air for starters, and will definately need a rebuild.

convert to a manual? man, if i had the chance, i would trade my manual for an auto, these 5-speeds just arent very tough at all. if youre going to be building up that 5.0, my suggestion is to stay with the auto.

I have to agree with donate, the autos can handle alot more power, and are consitant, never miss a shift or anything, and they always launch close ot the same. If you dont care about overdrive, just make your (im assuming AOD) race built. It is really cheap to built those up. Otherwise, if you want to get better gas mileage via overdrive, get a race built 4R70W or 4R100. I have a rece built 4R70W, and love it.

AOD's are overdrive transmissions, hence the acronym Automatic OverDrive. Since you have an '87, if you're thinking about an auto tranny and you want an OD for gas mileage, you'll probably want to go with the AOD since they are not electronically controlled. However, if you don't care about the OD, then the C-6 would probably be your transmission of choice. BTW, do you know which transmission you have in there now? I'm sure if it's an auto it's either the AOD or the C-6. Any ways, for what it's worth I prefer having an automatic in a truck. There are so many buildup parts available for both the AOD and the C6 that it can almost be like having the best of both worlds-- performance and convenience.

your tranny has no OD? you must have a C6 in there then. is it a 3 speed? i dont know of any other ford automatics in trucks that dont have OD other than the C4/C6

Given the year of the vehicle and the fact that it's an auto with no OD, I'm sure it's the C6 tranny. That's a great platform to build upon! I don't know why you'd want to get rid of your C6 to put in a manual transmission. Most people swap IN the C6!!!
