When I did a compression test, all the cylinder were right at 150, + or - maybe 5, and I heard this was excellent, is it? So with this many miles, could this engien handle some kind of power adder running between 6-9 psi? I know people slap blower on stangs with like 150k miles and they run like a bat out of hell.

Fast Pony, did you ever put that engine in your truck yet?

150 psi per cylinder is excellent. You may want to consider what my friend did, he installed a 50-75hp nitros kit, nothing drastic. Not expensive or big enough to hurt the motor but enough to make the difference when he needed it. Plus youy can turn it on or off when you want it. You can even get it with a progressive throttle so that it starts off with nothing and the more gas the more nitros, saves the tranny outta the hole.
The same guy also has a paxton supercharger with a gt40 upper and lower intake and borla exhaust, all bolted onto a 100k plus motor. Somethin to think about

beastie, its not just how high the psi goes, its how it rises, check a haynes manual (for any car pretty much) and i think they hav a chart on how to properly do a compression test and what everything means.

Thats what I followed, my Haynes manual, and I dont remember the procedure, but it was exactly what it should be for the "rise". Its been a while, maybe ill do it again soon.

With the condition your engine is in, it would probably be wise to stick with it if you are not concerned about torque. You can get enough HP to set you back in the seat a great deal with the 5.0 alone. For guys with mustangs that really want power, what they do is either go with a 351 or 351 long rod or maybe a stroker. This allows them to produce insane power and still have an idle that wont rock you out of this world and reliablity for daily driven vehicles. Naturally aspirated 302's are definately capable of 400rwhp, but reliablity and idle quality will not be up to par. That is were the 351 shines. You can have a NA 351w that is capable of compute to work turn key operation, with 100,000+ mile reliability. Also, with a 351 you would not need to change the computer or wiring order since your 302 is set up the same and the MAF will account for the diff in air volume.

BIG natural Aspirated 351w's suck fuel down quite rapidly, but if you keep them mild they are not a lot different than a stock 302. My 5.0 truck has always got 10-11 in town. I would be willing to guess you get a little better than that. For me, gas mileage can't get worse, only better. My buddies with 351w are getting about 13 in town, which is darn good, so If I got 12 I would be extremly happy.

For you I would still recomment saying with your 302 because it is cheaper. A 351 will beat it in all aspects, but if you can afford to eventually slap a ken bell on there I don't see any problem with your engine handling it. This would require the least amount of money and work for the HP yield you would achieve.

Yeah I think I am going to keep the 302. I get with all my mods about 14 mpg city and 19 highway. I did granny it around on 1 tank in the city and I got 16.2 or something, which I was damn impressed with, but I never let the rpms go above 2k, I mean I really grannied it, When I get a heavy foot, I get about 12.5-13, I never get lower than 12. When the truck was stock it got at best 12. As for coming up soon, I am going to the junkyard tomorrow to see if Ican find a good lower intake manifold, cause it would only cost $100 to get it ported by some guy in missouri. I read something that each runner on the stock upper truck manifold can flow 175 cfm, but the lower is only capable of 135, so that is the week point. I will probably then get headers, 1.7RR, and maybe electric fans. After that, I think I will have most of the bolt-ons there are, and then I will either dig into the engine, or slap a blower on there. I want to get the truck up to 300 flywheel hp, then I will put a blower on. I still dont know what kind of blower I want.

As to the other stuff you been asking, I commented in your other post about you friends turbo set-up........
