Cowl's purpose?

Does the cowl serve any real purpose, over the next few months I'm having some body work done and hopefuly will have my door handles shaved too but would also like to shave the cowl(make it smooth), it just has all those holes in it so I don't really see the purpose of them other then filling up with rain water.

So the question is do the hole's serve any purpose?

That's the fresh air intake for the a/c system and fresh air vent. It has drains holes that let water from rain and washing flow out on to the ground.

Yeah if you get an air freshener aerosol, and spray it on those holes and turn the AC on, it comes out your ac and works alot better than just spraying it in the cab.
