Question 1977 F-150 Engine/Tranny ?'s

I have a 1977 F150 with a 300 c.i. inline 6 and a granny gear tranny. The head gasket blew again for the second time. I guess Im really wondering if any V-8's will mount up with the transmission. Does anyone know much about this engine/transmission and maybe a place to find more information? Any help would be greatly appreciated and please let me know if you need any more info. Thanks!

www.fordsix.com is the home of the 300 on the web! Ask about the gasket problem there. It is most unusual, these engines typically deliver 250, 000 trouble free miles.

The 302/351 uses the same bellhousing pattern as the 300, so it will bolt up, but it uses a different flywheel/flexplate balance so you have to have the V-8 flywheel.

Ya, a blown head gasket on a 300 isn't very common at all. In fact this is the first case of one on a 300 I have seen for almsot a year if I remember correctly.
