Got my pulleys in

Well I got my Power & Amp pulleys in today. Well as usually I had problems, I could not remove the alternator bolt for the life of me. I called March and I spoke ot Randy and he said you have to use an impact air gun. Well tomorrow morning I am going to a friends construction company place where they work o nthe trucks an I am just going to use the one there. Well the pulleys look real nice!
Also when I was trying to remove the alternator bolt, I messed up the stock belt some, so I went to Carquest and bought the stock 99" 6 rib belt for $26. I then called March again, and Randy said I need a 96" belt, Carquest was out of them, so I went across the street to Autozone and picked up a Goodyear Gatorback belt for $23!!!!!! 96" 6 rib, I was amazed at there price. So the only things I see worth while at buying at Autozone are Optima Batteries, Sylvania Silverstar bulb ($20 vs $45 at any other place), and now Goodyear belts, I am sure I will find other stuff sooner or later.
I just wanted ot know how some of you guys removed the alternator pulley, and ill take some pics later.

Hey Beastie,

Let me know how they work, I might want to slap a set on the new 327.

Also how much did your set cost, I'm curious.....

Hey AutoZone is getting better with prices and items they stock, hell that's were I found those 190lph replacement fuel distribution modules (intank pump with shuttle valve). You just have to pick and choose by shopping around.

Stick with the Gatorback belts. They are worth it. They don't squeak like other belts and can really take the punishment ( take if from someone who has changed 5 alt, one on the side of the road with 1 screw driver 2 vice-grips and a pair of siccors from Eckerds after some screwball gave me an alt with just slightly the wrong pulley...its not fun getting a belt off that is wrapped around EVERYTHING)....anyway...the Gatorback belt is also LIFETIME WARRANTY! but I keep the old ones as emergency spares. Just my two cents and experience.

Hey beastie,

Thanks for the info, I have an account with Summit.

FYI there is another good source for parts with good prices and free shipping, MustangWarehouse.com. Their S&H charge is only $5.95, two bucks cheaper than Summit. I bought my 76mm C&L, 24#injectors, and Kirban regulator for a little over $400 and they came in two days from New York to Florida, that's fast!! Jeff is the owner, you can call for an order if you don't like web shopping like me. Just leave a message or send an e-mail and he will call you back.

Let me know how the pulleys perform, temp wise and charge wise.

Beastie,

Without an impact wrench removing the alt pully is a major PITA. I've done it but it's not much fun usually. If you are really in a rush sometimes you can put extra tension on the old belt and get it done by using a socket and tapping the end of the rachet sharply with a hammer.

In my case I was getting ready to swap the alt anyway, so I waited and took the old alt in and swapped them there using an electric impact wrench.

Fast Pony,

I have had the FRPP three piece set on my truck with no problems. Charge does drop at idle with the accessories on, but hasn't been a concern so far. Cooling stayed consistent with the exception of a very small move in the guage under heavy load low rev conditions. It was just enough that the guage would move and then settle right back down.

I had a radiator resealed after finding a leak, and then got a worse temp swing recently. I found a dead fan clutch which I replaced and still have a swing. It may have been that the temp swing was related to something other than the pulleys, but I won't be sure until I track it down.

BTW if you have a local FRPP dealer you might be able to just pick some pulleys up there. I paid $99 for the blue powder coated three piece set at the local SVT dealer. The black was a couple bucks less, but since they didn't have any in stock I paid the couple bucks and got my hands on them that day.

Well they are in. I did a few WOT runs, and the truck does pull harder. Just accelerating using like 1/2 gas I can really tell that the truck pulls harder. I am going to run against a friends Tacoma, earlier we went from a 20mph roll, and we stayed dead even up till about 70 then we shut it down. I will tell yall how it goes since I have the pulleys done. Also since I needed an impact wrench, I went to the construction company today, the place where they work on the BIG trucks, and the head mechanic is good friends with my friend (president of the companys son) so he pulled the alternator off and then pulled the pulley off in like 1/2 second, then he put the truck up on the rack and went to town working on it. It probably took him about 30 min, that included talking and everything. Well that was by far the easiest install of a mod I have ever done, I didnt do anything LOL. Well I was talking to my dad and he is like well lets just buy an air compressor and the tools, so I guess that is what I will spend some more money on It will be sweet to have air tools.

BTW if anyone wants a Carquest stock 99" 6 rib belt with exactly 17.3 miles on it, I will sell it to ya for like $10-15 + shipping, well maybe ill pay shipping, just tell me if anyone is interested.

Also does anyone have a stock upper manifold for sale? Since I was going to be getting the air tools, I decided I would try to port and polish the intake, and polish up the exterior and get it powder coated, but it would have my truck laid up for a few weeks so I cant do that, I was wondering if anyone had this available? I know TF replaced his and so did fast pony, are you guys interested in parting with them? I will pay for em, there just arent any on Ebay, and who knows where most of those come from anyway.

The results, a big improvement. From 20mph, I pulled about a truck and a half at 45mph and at about 60 I had min by about 2 - 2 1/2 truck lengths. Now he is getting his cams grinded, so he will probably be able to keep up with me, but that will just make me want more mods. Aslo charging is exactly the same. Wit hmy headlights on, radio at 20 on the volume and the same song and my truck being at 600 roms, it is at the O in NORMAL. I did the same thing yesterday with the truck and that is right where it was at. Also I get full charge at about 750rpms. Ill talk more later I have to goto work soon. So tell me guys if yall have any manifolds for sale!

On the improvement scale of my mods, this would be 3rd, with Superchip (1) and exhaust (2). Bang for the buck, this is probably (1), because while it didnt help as much as the chip, it cost less than half the price and gave more than half the improvement the chip did.

when i took my alt. pulley off i used one of those round rubber pipe wrench things wrapped around the old pulley. The only thing im concerned about with the pulleys is how good my AC works. Its still like 40º outside, so I cant really tell yet.
