uh oh...tranny not cooperating

Here's the quick and dirty:

Putting my top cover and gear shifter back on after removing both to replace the rubber plugs on a '95 M50D. After sliding the gear shifter back in, I can no longer shift any direction. I was pretty careful not to disturb the linkages or whatever on the bottom of the top cover, but what the heck could be going wrong? I may not be lining up the gear shifter properly, so I'll fiddle with that some more, any advice?

thanks

scott

I had a similar sounding problem when I installed my hurst shifter, I left my old one in reverse when putting in the new one, when I put the new one in I was stuck in reverse but the stick moved side to side like I was in neutral and I couldn't get out of reverse.

I had to take out the shifter again and get a screw driver and look into the tranny where the shift linkage goes and you will see like 3 pins (hard to explain what it looks like) any hoot I found out they all had to be aligned and that would put it in neutral so I was able to do that with the screw driver with out damaging anything.

If you can remember did you have the tranny in neutral before you did all this?

Tranny was in first.

Good advice, I know what you were describing, I'll have a look-see and hopefully get out of this jam.

Sprocket:

You are the man! Got her in N with a screwdriver and everything fit back in. Just in time, too, we got a rare blizzard in Central Va over the weekend, but I was happy as a clam knowing that under all that snow was a working, non-leaking transmission.
