Power door lock motor
Power door lock motor
The drivers side PDL hasnt worked on my truck since ive got it, ive lived with it this long and am ready to fix it. When i put new speakers in my doors, i checked it out and it wasnt plugged in. I pluged it in but it still doesnt work. How hard is it to replace one of these things? do i have to get it from ford? if i go to a junkyard what other years will fit? (i have an 89) I have a '90 tbird sitting in my back yard for parts, im going to check and see if the ones on it will fit. and has anybody ever done this before? when i plugged the old one in, it was a real PITA I dont think it would be to easy to replace the thing.
yes i've replaced one of mine from the junk yard cost me $5.00 . but it only lasted a year . it was a pita to install . the new acuator was only availible from a dealer @ $110.00. i got one out of a tempo , so maybe the tbird one will work????
I *think* most of the Ford actuators are the same. They're real common to go bad in Mustangs. I replaced the drivers-side one in my GT with a $5 one from the junkyard.
I haven't looked at the ones in my F150, but does it have the electrical plug-in at the bottom, and attach to the door lock rod at the top? If so, go to a local junk yard and snag one out of a comparable year/model Ford. Or, if you want to buy new, try a few Mustang online parts houses - ANYTHING but the dealer! www.mustangparts.com, www.daves-mustang-parts.com, www.dallasmustang.com, www.texasmustang.com, etc

EDIT: Pfft! After typing all of that, I totally missed what you said about the T-bird sitting in your yard.:o One from that should work.

lock actuator
i had the same problem with my passenger side door. i went to a junkyard and bought an actuator out of a wreked ranger for $2. i out it in right away and it didnt totally work. the problem was the the length of the little shaft on the solenoid. what i had to do was switch the shaft from the old actuator to the new one. it wasnt too much of a pain. you just have to take your time and be careful. when you take off the little crimped piece, there will be a little race with three bearings under it in three holes. be careful of these. when you get it apart, its just a matter of swapping the pieces. if you need some more info email me. id rather spend 2 bucks than 100, ya know? thanks, john
Well, Im gonna go check the one in the Tbird tomorrow maybe. I just got back from a trip to Reno. I took my truck towing a small trailer with three dirt bikes on it and a bunch of gear in the back, it did a lot better than when we took my buddies truck (with a 300-6) to Oklahoma pulling the same setup.
I'm new to the board but I've been following the posts were quite a while. Just got back from the Ford Dealer beacuse both of my mine are shot and they said the following are the same Part number: 89-94 Tempo/Topaz; 89-01 Aerostar, F150-F350, Bronco and Superduty. Hope this helps
Yah, i checked out the tbird, it was totally different. So i went down to the junkyard and they had one kickin around, I gave em $5 for it and they said if it didnt work, they would give me another. Luckily it worked, so I have working locks now
I did find that the lock ***** from my tbird are the same, but chrome, so I put them on
now im ready to get an alarm with keyless entry!
