air box question

anyone know of a good cheap way to move the air intake higher on a 94 f-150. 300 i6. i can't belive it's so low on a 4x4. and restictive! i'm surprised it can breath. i've got a k&n panel filter, but can't afford an fipk (man i wish). i'm thinking of sealing off the bottom of the airbox, adding a cone fliter inside it, cutting a hole in the hood and adding one of those lund cheexy air scoop things. then some ducting and poof, instant codl air intake!! and if i get water coming in there, i've got a LOT of other problems. any other ideas?

There are companies that sell snorkels that go out the fender and up the a-pillar and end up near the roof. Good for keeping water out of your engine but looks finda funny.

ditch the k&n, the only way to get more air through is to have more openings in the filter. That lets more dirt through. It is most noticable in forced induction engines.

I just got back from doing a bit of four wheeling. The creeks are running real high this time of year, and I had water coming up over my hood several times. I have the bottom of my airbox cut out and a K&N panel filter, I was suprised that i never sucked any water in. My friend hydrolocked his toyota in the same creek.
