302 Ouestion
I have a 1993 F-150 4x4 XLT. The guy I bought it off of said he replaced the engine in it with a brand new 302 mustang motor. He said the diff between a mustang motor and a 302 truck motor was the heads. Is this guy bs me or is he wright the truck runs great but seems to lack on power a little bit. Thanks
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I think the cam for a 302 truck engine is designed to make more low end torque than a mustang 302, the upper intake is different as well as the heads and firing order.
Keep on truckin' ...Mike

Truck and Mustang 302s use the same heads, different upper and lower intakes and different camshafts. IIRC firing order is different from the Mustang on speed-density trucks and the same on mass-air trucks. There's probably a 500-1000 RPM difference in the torque and HP peaks with the trucks being lower.
If it's the truck intake it will have twin throttle bodies on the front at an angle towards the drivers side. The Mustang intake uses a single throttle body facing at a right angle to the engine.
As for cams, the Mustang cam with a truck intake should perform at least as well at lower revs IMO, and probably better as the revs climb.
Get it breathing and go from there. Stock intake and exhaust on the 302 trucks leave a lot to be desired.
