how to get codes

hey my check engine light has been coming on every once in a while and i want to find out what it is. how do u check the codes? where do u check them at? oh by the way i have an 89 f150 with the I6

There is a way to do it with an analog multimeter, but I can't remember how to do it that way. Someone here probably knows. Its also described in Haynes Manuals and Chilton Manuals. The other way....

The Cool Way; Wally-World, Sears, and lots-o-parts stores sell cheap scan tools that retrieve codes for EEC IV Fords. Most under 30bucks. Check em out.
