4x4 not working

Hello everyone I been on this fourm for quit some time know and I just finnaly have a question to ask. I have a 93 F- 150 with push button 4x4 and the other day I went to use it, and when I pushed the button only thing it did is made a click noise one time and that was it. I proably used the 4x4 about 20 times since I bought the truck back in August. And thats the first time it ever did that.
Also where might the oil pressure sending unit be on this truck it has a 302. Thanks for your time. And happy NEW YEAR!

I have a 92', oil sending unit is on the driver side, down low, just in front of the oil filter. Sorry I don't know anything about pushbutton 4x4.

I'm not familiar with Ford's push button either. I have worked a little on Chevy little Blazers and Gmc Jimmys. Maybe they have a similar design.
Its a combo of electrical stuff and vacuum stuff. I'd look for a blow fuse first. The GMs have a 4WD fuse that blow alot. Then maybe look for chaffed wires near or around the transfer case.

4x4

Push button 4x4 engages the box via a vacuum. The same thing happened to my 86 Bronco II. It was easy to trace in that...not sure about the '93. Listen for unusually loud hissing under the dash. near the firewall too, though this is tough w/ the engine on. I'll bet it's a hose, though. good luck

Put your truck in 4wd and have someone look and see if your front driveshaft is turning. It should be. then on a slick surface of some kind give it some gas and see if the front tires spin, if they don't then it is the auto front hubs. it is a common problem Fords. To fix the problem, either put on manual hubs or get new auto hubs from Ford or maybe Warn.(I think Warn makes the Ford Lockouts)
Hope this helps

Had an '89 bronco II with shift on the fly (push-button)that failed. You would hear the click like yours but wouldn't engage. In my case there was an overide detent that fell apart in the motor which allowed the motor to travel to far and not allow it go back the other way. Fab'd a new detent and worked fine.

I could remove the motor on the transfer case and manually shift into 4 high and then shift back.

Don't know if this will help narrow it down, but good luck

Jerry

the electric shift on the fly is all electrical. no vac. The most common problem with them is the 4x4 motor on the transfer case failing... simple to replace, not sure how much they cost...
