Toyota and Nissan may have there cars put together here but all the parts come from Japan a few months back when there was that strike by the dock workers or what ever on the west coast they had to shut down the Nissan plant just south of Nashville because they didn't have any parts to put the cars together as they were on a ship on the west coast waiting to be taken off and trucked across the country.

Nascar really needs to revamp everything and go back to how they used to be. The muscle car era was pretty much brought on by nascar. Back then there had to be 500 production cars with a close configuration to what they would run on the track. The mustangs had the 429 or whatever it was on the track and 500 on the road. Now they race a what Taurus, it doesnt even come close to having a V-8. They need to go back and do everything like they used to. They want everything to be real tight together, but the engines are basically the same for any manufacturer. They need to let chevy put up there best "production" engine against fords best "production" engine. I would love to see the ford with the 5.4 vs. the chevys with the 5.3, then they could display the size of the engine in L or cubic inches just like in the old days.

Beastie,

I couldn't agree more. Current rules give no incentive for a manufacturer to produce a more aerodynamic or higher output vehicle. If Billy Bobs brand is too slick, they hang a mini air dam off the roof.

Wait, the only way you can buy that car is with FWD and a V6... why is is being raced with RWD and a V8???

I didn't know they let the OHC engines into the picture either.... but that's a whole nother ball of wax.

I hear what you guys are saying, but do you realize that production cars built today have the highest average hp of any year? What more do you want in the showroom? Dodge brought back a specially designed hemi for their re-entry into NASCAR, but the Chevy boys cried foul, saying it was an unfair advantage. So, Dodge started putting the hemi's in production vehicles, and you can expect the hemi to be back in NASCAR by 2005, possibly 2004. Chevy and Ford are working on hemi designs now as well, and they may see there way into production vehicles.

NASCAR has done more for the auto industry that you can possibly realize, but there are limits because of NASCAR's rules.

It's racing, guys, c'mon. Do you root for a football team because of the brand of uniform they wear? I hope not. So why does it matter what car your favorite driver races in? it shouldn't.

Try being loyal to the driver, rather than the manufacturer. It's a lot of fun.

Take care,
~Chris
