I can think of about a million things the gov't could be doing besides seeing what wood Gibson makes their fine intruments out of. How about the illigal importation of humans from mexico?

Actually, you are. 23K is a large sum of money. Having volunteered in campaigns in the past, I can assure you that you can print many signs/bumper stickers and pay for other advertisements with that much money.

The major point you are missing is that these gestapo tactics send a 'message' to other donors that you could be next if you continue to donate.

These are the types of actions that happen routinely in 3rd world countries, and now they are happening here. It is an egregious abuse of power.

I'm not going to discuss the actual case, since all we have are the writings of reporters, who are notoriously bad at actually investigating and reporting issues. I will say that it is odd for the DOJ to get involved with a Lacey Act importation violation, much less be the primary agency involved. Unless the company is being targeted from another source, they don't really have the ability, expertise, or tools to conduct the investigation properly. If they are interested in that type of case, it is normally handed over to DHS, where two organizations called Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement conduct the investigation while the DOJ sticks around to assist. Those two components of DHS are set up specifically to investigate and prosecute any violations involving customs and immigration. Lacey Act is definitely a customs law and is one of the main laws DHS still enforces.

 

Just let Gibson make their instruments--getting big hands (government policy) involved in companies business policies (businesses of this nature) reeks of trying too hard.

And if Gibson survives unscathed, I hope their Republican donations increase. After all, if government starts dictating who you can give to, we are then living in the U.S.S.R., not the U.S.A.

That is the part that is sooooooooooooo wrong with this whole thing. DOJ and Holder should be the ones with their collective nuts on the line, not Gibson. Start there and work your way up, probably find that the fish rots from the head down!

 

Yeah, Gibson seems to be the loser in all this, not counting the people who might never have the opportunity to use one of their finely-produced instruments...
