Interesting, to say the least.

Good story. I seem to remember Admiral Mike Mullen telling a Congressional Committee that the greatest threat to our country was economic, specifically debt and foreign control of assets.

That's a chilling article...a REALLY good find.

I've been too afraid to open the link since reading the thread title.
Just tell me. It's about Obama's high school report card isn't it?

No but it shows American politics and military advisers need to hit up Sparknotes on world history and economics if they want a chance at anything higher than an "F".

That's the bad news.

Good news is he made an A in Swahili!

Fortunately, the American Military is awake to this threat and is trying to work on ways to counter it.

In general, it's the failure modes you're not aware of that get you, not the ones you know about.

Correct, and the vast majority of Americans aren't aware of this one because the media is mum on the issue because their boy is in the White House.

Alex_4.2L Aug 21, 2011 05:25 PM

It says in the article China could dump their holdings in US debt and that would be disastrous for the US economy. It also says that oil rich countries could decide to go with the euro as the currency for oil and get rid of the dollar for that purpose. Why don't we live within our means so we don't have to worry about this. If the US wasn't so in debt neither of things would be a problem. Personally, I think our economy will crash and there will be hyperinflation before the government gets a hold on spending. They just don't care and they are too stupid to do anything about it.

Why not, "because it's not newsworthy because the average American, who barely understands anything in the field of economics, would not understand any of it"?

Doesn't the average American prefer to learn about, oh, the latest antics of Kim Kardashian, or, who's favored to win the Series?

You're correct Jack, and that in and of itself describes the demise of the country we call great.

Far, far too many Americans are merely along for the ride and could care less about truly important things.

Frank and Jack are both right. The MSM is covering for their boy as much as they can AND too many Americans are far more concerned about Kim Kardashians wedding or how there favorite sports team did this weekend.

That is definitely a major part of the problem.

Respectfully, Harley, I don't really see the MSM "covering for their boy" as you and Frank put it, as much as not bothering with news that doesn't sell. The MSM is, after all, a "private enterprise" that is "profit driven". Media like NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, Fox, et all, are competing for audience share. The stuff they pump out is designed to pull the largest possible share of that audience to their feed. Naturally, they tend to give us what we want, not what we need.

Again, as another member so deftly put it (and I'm sorry I can't just pull his name up right now), the "private sector" is NOT in it for the goodness of mankind. They're in it for profit.

The liberal bias of the vast majority of the MSM is well documented. If you don't want to see that Jack then we will agree to disagree.
