Both.

If you already have the Sony sub, it'll just need to be unplugged and removed. This one mounts directly in it's place.

Instructions can be found here:

Okay, I'm confused - this Ford dealer shows this sub DOES NOT work with the Sony system for the 09-10 models:

Makes sense because of the Sony amps under the console.

OP, can you confirm?

Not sure why they say that.

Based on the instructions, the audio for the sub comes from tapping the front left door speaker, and power is run directly from the distribution box under the hood. Seems to me that it shouldn't matter whether you have the Sony system or not.

Page from the PDF:

Since the instructions mentioned installing both with or with the factory sub, I just assumed it would work either way.

Also, see the following Q&A section from Stage 3's website for more info. It looks like in certain applications (2013+), this is a direct plug in replacement for the Sony sub:

I'm just confused as the Sony sub only has one plug, but this one has 2 so not sure how it would be plug and play? 2014 F150 FX4 with Sony HD. Did you use this at all? Curious if it is an upgrade to the current setup?

I opened the box to verify the contents, then sealed it back up.

Can't say for sure on the plug and play. How many pins are on your Sony sub plug? My guess is that the Kicker sub plugs directly into the factory harness, and the amp harness is not utilized. Not sure why anyone would want to run it that way though as I would guess the Kicker amp puts out more wattage than the stock Sony system.

Regardless, the kit includes everything to run audio and power to the back of the cab, so all you will have to do is pull the plug from the Sony sub, and tuck the original plug under the carpet.
