2000 lb winch?

Is it worth getting a 2000 lb atv type winch for my truck? It's only like $30 and I know it won't really help me if I get stuck but it my help in some situation. Worth it or not?

Not really there isnt much pulling power with a 2000lb hell I had to up my winch to a 3000 on my quad because i needed more pulling power when I get it real stuck. If you did get one you would need a ****** block which would basically double the winches pulling power but even than it would not really help you out unless you were just barely stuck to the point where a old lady could help push your truck unstuck. You would also end up burning out the motor on the winch pretty quick. Either do it right or not at all...

Not worth waisting the 30 bucks. Rule of thumb is 1 1/2 to 2 times your vehicle's weight.

THe rule we follow at Warn is

1.5 times the gross vehicle weight rating = minimum pulling capacity.

Your truck probably has a GVWR of about 6,000 lbs., meaning you should probably run a 9,000 lb. winch at a minimum.

that'll probably burn up before it even budges your truck an inch.

don't be a cheap ***, go on craigslist you can pick up a used 8-9k lb name brand winch for under $200-$300

right now i'm working on tracking down a belleview or warn 5687 winch that hasn't been made since around 1972. why? because it's good *** winch and they still make the modified model (8274-50) that replaced it today. basically, do it right once and you won't have to ever buy another one, you might 10 years down the road need to replace a motor, but that's nothing compared to constantly fixing a crappy/under powered winch every 6 months

Its not worth the $30. Either the motor will burn up first, or the cable will snap and it could do some damage to the truck or even someone standing by.

If you can get a warn 2000 for $30 by all means do so. Install it on your trailer or turn around and sell it on an atv site for a profit.

I agree. If it's only $30 and it works buy it. Don't put it on your truck though. It won't do you any good at all. You can use it for something else or sell it for $100

I've always heard the minimum for a 5000lb truck is 8000-9000lb winch had a friend burn up a winch thinking it would give him added pull when he spun the tires, little did he know it only wasted 100 bucks..
