LMAO, are you serious?!?! The only problem that would cause would be the gears driving against the coast side which depending on if its high pinion or low pinion it could actually be a good thing. I'd be more worried about breaking the reverse drum in the trans than anything in the axles. I don't even know where to start on the weight on the smaller front axle part.

Bottom line, if you have a poorly built axle or suspension it could break, otherwise pulling in reverse is fine.

I think so, thats what we did everything was fine afterwards. I wouldn't see a prob with reverse pull out honestly. If my front axle ever bust bc of that, im buying a dodge.

I've never jerked on a vehicle before. The chain was used when tractors were called in, and trust me, they break straps. No jerking. Just get the line tight and press the gas!

You were probably using a POS strap. Not a quality ****** strap, my trucks ifs caved in when a tractor pulled me out, yet the strap didn't break.

I think we need a 101 on what a actual ****** strap is. Not the crap you bought from harbor freight

You were probably using a POS ifs.

C'mon, we can do this all day. I'm not arguing that chains are better than straps at all, and you guys are jumping on me like I told your mom off.

Yes, a quality strap is much safer and definitely much more practical. I've seen chains slap tailgates and once go through the back glass of a truck. Straps can react violently when they break too, but are much more easily controlled with a couple of wet towels.

Whenever we saw people break chains we never blamed it on them - it was their parents that didn't know how to use straps properly! (think about it....hahaha bada bing!)

I know it isn't the same but at my bros work, they tow 15-20k pound tractor trailer trucks...with chains...but i guess that isn't the jerking force or whatever...lol

Common sense tells u straps, if something did happen. injury/damage would not be as likely.
Im just saying straps are rated for more weight, ezier to carry around, and they are much cheaper. Why get a chain?

Here is a post on pirate about chains. Couple thousand dollars of damage, luckily no injuries.
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=880376

for those who do not want to click.
I was at my friend's house yesterday and he got a call from another friend, saying that he was stuck and needed a little help from him and his blazer. They had tried to pull a suburban out of the mud with a Jeep, so now they were both stuck and had already removed the rear bumper of the Jeep at a high velocity. Long story short, the Jeep came out easily, and was parked a good 100 feet away from the stuck Suburban. Hooked up to the 'burban, snapped one chain, and took out three windows, put a hole in the blazer top, and smashed the driver of the suburban in the elbow. One piece of the chain flew a good 60 feet in the air, traveled about 100 feet, and landed squarely on the Jeep while we all stood there in awe. It was like watching an instant reply in football...in slow motion. You couldn't have aimed it any better.

lucky you. i took mine to a car wash, pulled up, they looked at my truck and flat out told me they werent gonna do anything underneath (o, and with the amount of mud i had on it, it was gonna cost more than what they have on the signs...). if it wasnt on the body, it wasnt getting done.

1. I guess you just mildly wheel if you have never had to jerk a vehicle out.

2. A tractor may break a piece of crap strap, but if you get a good one. It will hold fine. Do the research. Chains are for 'tards.
