Hey I live in Northeastern NC and I am thinkin about puttin some train horns on my truck. I know they are illegal to use but not have. Anyone know how much that ticket would be if a cop catches you?

I'd say it'd be your standard noise violation ticket, if you even got a ticket. Most cops will let you off if it's your first time for that sort of violation.

I have a K5LA and it's the most fun I have ever had in a truck. Okay, maybe not the most, but close!

Look it up in your local state/local laws. For NC you have GS 20-125 which says:

(a) Every motor vehicle when operated upon a highway shall be equipped with a horn in good working order capable of emitting sound audible under normal conditions from a distance of not less than 200 feet, and it shall be unlawful, except as otherwise provided in this section, for any vehicle to be equipped with or for any person to use upon a vehicle any siren, compression or spark plug whistle or for any person at any time to use a horn otherwise than as a reasonable warning or to make any unnecessary or unreasonable loud or harsh sound by means of a horn or other warning device. All such horns and warning devices shall be maintained in good working order and shall conform to regulation not inconsistent with this section to be promulgated by the Commissioner.

How old are you that the amount of the fine is your biggest concern? Odds are the ticket will also demand the removal of the non-compliant hardware. Like if you get a ticket for illegal window tint, you'll have to remove the tint in addition to the ticket.

Just don't be dumb with it and you'll be fine. 400-500 is a decent price for a kit. A true train horn like the Nathans will be more.
