Michigan area members: this could be your truck sitting atop a dune. We regulars get some stares from people at the dunes when the four of us are parked atop "Test Hill".
Your truck need not be more than stock to have a great time at Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Simply "air down" your tires to about 13 PSI and you would be suprised what it can do in the sand. Imagine 8 or 10 of us blasting around the dunes together!!! C'mon Mighigan/Ontario area 4X4 F-150 people...let's party!!! Contact me at the e-mail in the above post.

Jim

Arghh this is killing me! I wanted to go to Michigan for vacation this summer in my truck and with my girl but I'm not sure as to what it may end up costing me? I am affraid of braking my truck on the sand, is it like mud? Can it get everywhere or does it depend on the driver (like mud also). I don't want to end up with sand in my air filter or in my vents (front & rear diffs). I'm also affraid that my truck still has 3.08 gears so if the sand is "heavy" to drive through like wet snow I will need to be in Low range. So this means me going 20 mp/h maximum! But if the sand dunes has some patted areas, I guess it would be o.k.

I would have a place to stay either in Sarnia Ontario or in Port-Huron. Heck it would be cool to camp out in the sand dunes (if possible) I would bring some of that French Canadian beer (if I can sneek it accross the border hehe). Are their some cool places to visit that are cheap? Heck the more I think about, the more I want to go! But It would be cool to have some kind of truck rally...

Nice pictures JIM, they make me want to go, like right now! What happened with the Jeep person, did he try something harder? I can see in the distance a lower hill. Maybe he should have went there? How much are the flags? If I go should I bring a CB radio? What would be the "things" for me to bring?

I think it would be possible for me to go up there with 400 bucks canadian? Sorry about all the questions dude! But I've got one more, would you like to include this off-road story to my web site. I'm opening an off-road adventure section and would like some other people stories...

thank you very much, and just maybe, maybe you will see some frogs jumping the dunes
Steve

Cool

The test hill looks like something that you have to get some speed to climb. Sort of like climbing a hill with a foot of mud. Back up, put it in second gear and floor it!!!

eph1fifty,4X4 low range is capable of higher speeds!. That's all we use (otherwise you overheat tranny). As for gears, I don't know about your 3.08, but you don't *have to* climb all the dunes. You can get around them on flatter areas. I am by no means an expert on duning. You could contact JMC via the "list" (a fellow Canadien to you) and I'm sure he could answer all your questions.

Cool!
guess who's Truck of the month?
http://www.fortunecity.com/silversto.../843/calendar/

It was a tough decision, but I couldn't resist the view in the background!!
Besides, we need more Mi Area members, so I opted for a Mi Area member pic this time.
That might hold ya till I get the Milan site updated.

Jim,

Excellent pictures. Sorry I missed the Friday session. No I'm not I don't like to freeze. Saturday was a blast so it wasn't a total loss.

Steve,

Your truck will do fine in the Dunes. You do more harm to it climbing your 3 ft road block. You can drive most everywhere with stock tires, even beat chevies with AT's in a race. If your truck breaks down I'll drag you back to Canada. The trip is about 850 miles (1350 km) to the Dunes from Granby.

Regards

Jean Marc Chartier
