I have a better question:

What was a Chevy doing 75 feet out in a pond?

Love the pic, been debating on getting a smittybilt myself, which one do you have the 8,000 or 10,000

if your debating, go 10k.

General rule of thumb, is double the weight of your vehicle, then go to the next size up, thats your vehicle's winch. So, truck weighs 5k lets say. 5+5=10k, so I would be looking for a 10-12k winch.

We use 9k winch's on our little Samurai's and Jeeps.

Just Doesn't mean a 8k wouldn't help, but it wont always get you out, and will be working WAY harder then it should be. Keeping an eye on the temps, and giving long breaks inbetween pulls will help keep it alive, but might not be enough "umph" to help. I have had a buddies 8k over heat trying to pull my samurai out of a stuck.
