got stuck and have a question
I got stuck in some deep mudd that was deeper then i thought, since out of all my buddies i have the truck most equipped for off roading i had no one to pull me out. I had to go to home depot and had to buy a *** along. I pulled the truck out that way it took forever and was not fun at all.
So my question is i have a westin bull bar and i want to get a Winch. What do yall recommend becuase i know im going to get stuck again and i dont want to have to pull it out by hand again.
Thanks

we did that for one of my buddies it takes way to much effort but its effective lol....but none of us had enough strap or chain long enough to get to him without us getting stuck as well... but never go mudding alone...a) its no were near as fun...2)any truck should be able to get you out as long as you have a strap, the only reason you should ever need a winch is if you live in really rough terrain or in the mountains...but theres a few companies that offer bumpers that can hold a winch...u can go to warn they have anything and everything for winches...they have hidden winches, full bumpers with winches, bull bar with winch mounts...i dont own a winch or have the need for a winch so i dont know much about them..but if you want a sick setup that looks good google boondock bumpers they have really nice bumper that arent rediculously over priced...or theres a few other but there really expensive
look at mile marker and warn. you will want a 9k or stronger.
You arent gonna want to mount it on that bull bar it will buckle i promise.
you need a new winch bumper, hidden winch carrier or a front mounted hitch to get on to work. The bull bar just isnt strong enough.

i have a hidden winch with a warn on my Brush truck at work and it aint my favorite setup. everyone has their opinions and i dont knock'em, just givin ya a heads up. the spool release isnt as easy to access, and if you have a problem its extra work to pull it back off and work on and its not as east to spool the wire up neatly as oppossed to a front reciever or a brush guard with mounts. but if price is a factor then the hidden setup may be the cheapest
There used to be these winch's sold on ebay for around $250 for a 9000lb. The reviews from offroad forums was great. I want to say Patriot...or...DAMN I wish I remembered. They were built overseas but were stupid cheap and were comparable to some of the better brands (ramsey, etc). But yes, with the proper strap ANYONE can pull you out (so long as they don't get stuck themselves). That goes back to what's proper, get a longer length.

I'm thinking about a winch, but I want a hydraulic mile marker with a winch mount from Sterling Equipment, believe it would be the only one you ever have to buy.
A front mounted receiver hitch, with a 9000k + winch and a winch plate that fits into the 2" front receiver will probably be the cheapest way to go. You can also move your winch set-up to the rear receiver or a 2" receiver on a car hauler or equipment trailer. This will allow you to use your expensive winch in three or more locations without having to redo the install everytime.
Not as clean as a hidden winch but very functional. Check it out.
Summit Racing has front receivers, winches, and winch mounting plates. Or even better, design and weld up your own front reciever like myself (Much better price)
Good luck and choose wisely.

A hidden hitch in the front with a warn 9000 or better mounted on a receiver mount will work well. On my last truck I had front and rear receivers with warn power cables at each end, and a 9500lb winch on a plate. I left it out most of the time to save on weight and prevent it from getting stolen, and prevent it from rusting and such. But it was plenty easy to set it up.
