Used to go out there quite often years ago when I was stationed at Point Loma. The rock formations out there are sandstone just like af Moab so they are lots of fun to play on. My personal favorite trail was the Pinion Mountain Trail, there is a section in the middle of the route that is called "The Squeeze" where you have to fold your mirrors in to fit between 2 rocks, then about 2 miles after that there is the "drop off" which is a hill that is about 1000' tall and the grade is just over 40%.

One thing to remember if you go out there is to stay away from the fluffy looking ***** on the ground, those fluffy ***** are Cholla cactus also known as "jumping cactus" because as soon as you see them they are attached to you like they jumped on you. And they are sharp enough to stick into tires.

Pinion mtn trail begins in Borrego and ends in Ocitillo, you could go the other direction but good luck climbing the dropoff (Devils Slide).

i have gone down devils slide in my dad sandrail. pretty sketchy, but still fun. another good run is from borrego to ocotillo, the goats trail.there are a few hills that have been fenched off for protection but they look huge and fun wish they would take the fenches down.
