if someone gets stuck(mud, beach, snow, whatever), will my 4.6L triton have what it takes to pull them out. I know the 5.4 would be ideal but im just wondering. This is my first truck and i love it but i dont know too much about the capability compared to the 5.4. The door says 6950lbs for towing capacity. and it is stock right now except for my flowmaster, tints, and bed cover.

 

it is hard to say, there are a lot of variables that could come in to play like your traction, how bad they are stuck, etc.. You should have no problem with a mild stuck, but you never know until your in the situation!

 

like mentioned above, there are too many variables but you should be able to pull out another truck the majority of the time.

 

I can reiterate the above. After pulling out countless number of trucks, every situation is different. I have the 5.4 and have done well pulling out everything I've come across (minus one situation I needed help with). Some of the people could have EASILY been pulled out by a 4cyl truck while others definately used the 300horses of my V8. The one thing that I can say is that if someone's stuck in thick mud, then that creates a suction and even if it's a 3000lb civic it could have a pull weight of 10,000lb with the mud sucking it in. Good luck, and know the capabilities of your truck....Don't overbear it, cause that driveshaft and gears will only take so much before they "snap". I'm sure many of us have seen it before!

your 4.6 shouldnt do to bad.

my friend was bottomed out on some ruts really bad (went into it goin like 30) stuck in mud as well and with a little jerkin i got him out.

 

Its what you put down to the ground not what the crank has. I have pulled big jeeps out with an old Suzuki Samurai that had all of 60 hp crank, but it was geared down and could do the job. Put that 150 in 4low and something will break before it stops pulling

 

i have a 4.6 2wd and it has done fine with pullin people out. but the biggest thing i pulled was a lifted bronco out of a ditch lol
